On January 24th we will read and discuss, Toni Morrison’s Recitatif. Please note, if you read the Morrison book, you need to skip the introduction, read the story first between two women – one black and one white – which Morrison doesn’t say specify in the story the race of each woman. After you experience the story, you can read the introduction for Morrison’s insights into race.

Viewing of the Movie “Rustin”

Racial Justice Mission Group and COLLAGE are co-sponsoring a viewing of Rustin right after worship service on Sunday, February 25 in Syster Hall.
The movie tells the story of Bayard Rustin who orchestrated the 1963 March on Washington. He faced racism and homophobia as part of his participation in Civil Rights.
A light lunch will be served and discussion will follow the film.

“Take a Walk in My Shoes”

Through personal narratives and shared experiences, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the strength and resilience required to combat discrimination. Postcards to Ex-Felons Voting Project

In partnership with the League of Women Voters, a non-partisan group, the RJMG and COLLAGE invites the congregation to write postcards to ex-felons to help them get their voting rights restored.  Materials will be provided by the LWV, represented by church member Carol Resignio, a member of the League.

“Embracing Our Differences” – Docent-Led Tour

Bayfront Park 5 Bayfront Drive, Sarasota, United States

The Racial Justice Mission Group invites you to a free docent-led tour of EMBRACING OUR DIFFERENCES at Bayfront Park on Wednesday, April 3 from 1:30-2:30pm.  Our church is a co-sponsor of Billboard # 30.  For those who do not want to drive, the church bus will load at 11:45am and leave the church at 12 noon, returning to the church by 3pm.   Lunch options are O’Leary’s Restaurant on site or taking your picnic lunch.  Meet at the yellow arch entrance to the park at 1:20pm to begin the tour at 1:30pm. Our friends, the Unitarian Universalists, will join us on the tour.
