The Racial Justice Mission Group and our siblings of COLLAGE are inviting you to participate in the project sponsored by the League of Women Voters to help returning citizens have their voting rights restored.
You may recall in March, we had a similar activity and many of our congregation members addressed almost 200 postcards to returning citizens informing them of ways, they can have their voting rights restored. It was so successful; the League of Women Voters asked us to do it again. The postcards and addresses are being provided by the League, and the Racial Justice Mission Group will provide the postage stamps. Please join us after service on July 21 for a few minutes to address some postcards for a worthwhile cause. Refreshments will be provided.
The right to vote is critical and essential part of our Democracy and we should do all what we can to ensure every person has an opportunity to exercise that right. In 2018, more than 64% of Florida citizens approved an Amendment to give persons with felony convictions the right to vote after they completed their sentences. However, the Florida legislators added additional stipulations that made it virtually impossible for the Amendment to be enacted as it was intended.
