The Manasota Interracial Book Club presents a keynote presentation on the Manasota ASALH (Study of African-American Life and History) Freedom School. This is a vibrant educational initiative dedicated to preserving and teaching authentic Black history. This presentation will explore the historical significance and contemporary relevance of the Freedom School, addressing its role as a counter to the erasure and misrepresentation of Black history in educational systems. Participants, whether educators, students, historians, or community members, will gain a deeper understanding of the critical need for truthful historical education.
Yoleidy Rosario Hernandez is an Afro-Dominican and Taino trans, interdisciplinary artist, educator, and diversity consultant, and currently serves as Program Director for the Freedom School and Youth Programs at Manasota ASALH.
