Celebrating Worship Team

The celebrating worship team continued to serve throughout this difficult year making sure that important decisions concerning worship and safety were in balance. Before March 15th, 2020, the tasks of greeters, ushers, liturgists, and communion servers were accomplished using faithful members of our church. An usher training was conducted in February – one month before we no longer needed ushers. We are looking forward to a refresher training for 2021 services when we return safely to worship together.

As a team we are pleased that we can be a sounding board for our pastor as special worship experiences are planned and created. The end goal is making sure that worship is meaningful and a blessing to our congregation.

Advent, Lent, Holy Weeks, Dr. Martin Luther King Sunday, Earth Day, Pride Sunday, World Communion Day, All Saints Day, and Thanksgiving are important times in the worship life of our church. Last year Bettye Smith shared her reflections on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King. Her comments gave us hope and made Dr. Martin Luther King Sunday very special. Dr. Marsha Kendall-Smith added to this worshipful day with her inspirational prelude. Lent began with the theme “Worship in Another Key” – little did we know that during lent on March 15th, we’d start a new adventure of ‘live streaming’ on Facebook.

Streaming has continued and is here to stay. We began an outdoor worship service at 9:00 a.m. in October. CDC guidelines are followed and feedback has been very favorable.

Yes, it has been a difficult year in the worship life of our church. Yet, we are a blessed church with a wonderful Minister of Music and Pastor that enriched our lives each Sunday during the COVID pandemic. We look forward to attending worship together safely sometime in 2021.
