November: "The Secret Book of Flora Lea" by Patti Callahan Henry
. In the wartorn London of 1939, fourteen-year-old Hazel and five-year-old Flora are evacuated to a rural village to escape the horrors of the Second World War. Living with the kind Bridie Aberdeen and her teenage son, Henry, in a charming stone cottage along the River Thames, Hazel fills their days with walks and games to distract her young sister, including one that she creates for her sister and her sister alone—a fairy tale about a magical land, a secret place they can escape to that is all their own. But the unthinkable happens when young Flora suddenly vanishes while playing near the banks of the river.

Book Selection Process

Our book club follows a unique selection process where books are chosen from a yearly list provided by the Florida UCC Women. This ensures a diverse and enriching reading experience for all members.



Member Involvement

Members play a crucial role in the book selection process. Each year, we read through the list and descriptions of approximately 30 books and vote on our favorites for the following year. This democratic approach ensures everyone has a say.



Monthly Meetings

Ready Readers meets on the second Thursday of each month at noon in the Oasis Center. These gatherings are not just about discussing books, but also about fostering fellowship and learning among members.
