Our Rich History

Since 1954: A Legacy of Inclusion and Service

The First UCC Women’s Group has been a cornerstone of our church community since 1954. We warmly welcome all women and men of the church to join us in our mission of fellowship and service. Our monthly gatherings are a time to connect, learn, and support one another.

Monthly Gatherings

Join Us for Fellowship and Service

Our meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month, from October through May, at 11:30 am in Syster Hall. Each gathering includes a time for fellowship, a shared lunch, and a program featuring a variety of topics and guest speakers.

Nonprofit organizations are invited to share their missions during our meetings, offering firsthand insights into their work in the community. We also host a variety of speakers and experts on critical environmental issues such as water quality and controlling invasive plant species.  Through these conversations, we engage with vital topics that affect both our local and global community.

One of our cherished traditions is the December meeting, where we fill and wrap gift bags for seniors.  Through the generosity of our members, we also contributed over $6000 to non-profits for mission work in 2023. Join us and make a positive impact while forming lasting friendships.

Empowering Through Knowledge

Monthly Program Highlights

Our monthly programs provide a unique opportunity for attendees to engage directly with various non-profits and helping agencies. These sessions are not only informative but also foster a sense of community and shared purpose. With an average attendance of 30-40 members, these gatherings are a testament to the group’s commitment to learning and community involvement.

Two of the organizations we collaborate with and donate to are Baby Basics of Sarasota County, which provides essential support to low-income families by offering free diapers and promoting literacy, and Children First of Sarasota, a Head Start Program that offers early childhood education and family support services to over 900 children annually. These partnerships help the us contribute to addressing vital community needs.

Spreading Holiday Cheer

December Gift Bag Project

One of the most cherished activities of our group is the December meeting where we fill and wrap shoeboxes (starting this year, gift bags) for seniors. Last year, we proudly distributed 81 boxes, with 40 going to Orchard Place and the remainder to Meals on Wheels. This initiative not only brings joy to the recipients but also strengthens our community bonds and highlights the generosity of our members.

Our Impact

Generosity in Action

In 2023, the First UCC Women’s group demonstrated remarkable generosity by contributing over $6000 to various non-profits dedicated to mission work. This significant financial support has enabled numerous organizations to continue their vital efforts in addressing community needs, from environmental conservation to aiding the homeless and tackling pressing societal issues. Our members’ unwavering commitment and kindness have made a tangible difference, fostering a spirit of compassion and community service.

Each month, we gather to learn about and support different non-profits, providing a platform for these organizations to share their missions and needs. This engagement not only educates our members but also strengthens our community bonds. The highlight of our December meeting was the assembly and distribution of 81 shoeboxes filled with gifts for seniors, benefiting both Orchard Place and Meals on Wheels. Such initiatives underscore the profound impact our group has on the lives of many.
